After the great blizzard had passed, the people of the Techwyn Settlement celebrated, thanking the Watchful Goddess Basthura for the Miraculous Feast which allowed them to survive. War of Shadows & Early HistoryIn the world of Arthya, horrors stalk in the shadows and scratch at the door in the night. One of the most precious commodities in the Ghostlands is safety. Most citizens do not want to think about the terrors that lurk on the other side of the city walls, but every day there are people who put their lives at risk to be the shield of the people and like the moon goddess Basthura Luna, be a watchful protector in this war against the shadows of the world.

Modern-Day TekneaGovernment & PoliticsEconomyLiterature & Visual ArtsEntertainment & Mass MediaLocal CuisineFamily StructureTeknea is a matriarchal society, with the common Ghostlander family structure lead by the matron mother of the household. It's not out of the ordinary seeing women being the breadwinner of the household as her husband stays at home doing household chores and looking after the children. Outside of Teknea it is common for men to take the family name of their wives, but in Teknea it's possible to opt out and keep your bachelor's name, with the children carrying the mother's surname or in some cases the name of both parents.
During courtships, the young woman would typically approach the young man first to show her interest in her crush. The parents are not usually involved in this relationship as it is the daughter's decision in the end, but some women are more 'old fashion' and go ask the mother permission for dating their son. The strong, powerful, confident woman of history has been seen as role models for a lot of contemporary women of today, even in Teknea.
ReligionBasthura Luna, the Nocturnal Mother and the Watchful Protector. The central figure of the several religions around Arthya. One of the most worldwide spread religious sect relating to this figure would have to be Luna Sanctuarium of the Sacred Light.
Luna Sanctuarium of the Sacred Light, commonly known as the Church of Basthura Luna, is an old-world religion from the continent of Astraeu with a rich history. It is matriarchal religion that worships the goddess of Basthura Luna and her great pantheon surrounding her known as the Great Ones.
The Moon Goddess' pantheon featuring the Elder Moons of Creation, Embraelle the All-Mother of Knowledge, and led by Basthura Luna the Nocturnal Mother and the Watchful Protector herself. It is among the world's oldest and largest religious institutions in the world. The religion has been practiced since before the rise of the Great Themiskyra Empire, and by extension has played a prominent role in the historical development of Western civilization. The current High Priestess Mother of the Luna Sanctuarium is named Felicia Delune, one of the Daughters of Basthura Luna, chosen to become High Priestess Oracle, a messenger of the gods.
Basthura Luna
The religion was founded on the teachings of Basthura Luna, who lived and lectured her followers from her temple in the ancient City of Aegypthryael in the Great Emerald Empire. Basthura Luna is worshiped as the first of the Great Ones, she is the Luna Goddess of Ancient City of Aegypthryael, Mistress of the Seas. She is known to rule over the domain of the Elder Moons, Protection, Pleasure, Love and Healing. She is known as the Great One who keeps the people of Arthya safe from the darkness.
Her teachings later spread north into the continent of Astraeus. The church was founded on the belief that Basthura Luna saved the world from an era of eternal darkness during the Great Cataclysm. According to the tales, Basthura Luna faced the Slumbering Ancient One who destroyed the Elder Moons of Arthya causing seas to unleash its wrath on the people of the land. Armed with her legendary spear she calmed the eldritch seas, sending back the great old god into a state of eternal slumber, and with all her unearthly strength created a single great moon to watch over the people during the darkest nights and protect them from the nightly terrors.
The oldest church in Teknea is called Saint Godiva Cathedral, and it's located in Techwyn City, it is only of the oldest building in the city with a view of an ancient Atlantean statue that resembles Basthura Luna built into the natural land formation. It has been said that during a full moon, you can see the ghostly figure of Basthura Luna appear from atop the colossal statue, watching over the people of Techwyn City. The Saint Godiva Cathedral is led by a High Priestess Oracle under the ruling matriarch of High Priestess Mother of the Luna Sanctuarium.
The Followers of the Luna Sanctuarium worship of the Elder Moons, Embraelle, the Bringer of Light and Basthura, the Guardian Watcher of the Night. They have many names, but in Teknia they are known as the Elder Moons, Embraelle & Basthura. They also worship lesser gods known as Elder Guardians.
